Catalinas

What are Catalinas?

Catalinas are the coupons you sometimes get at the register along with your receipt at Safeway, Fred Meyer, Albertsons, Walgreens (Register Rewards), and Rite Aid (UP Rewards). There are three types of Catalinas:

  1. Advertisements — They have no value to you, recycle them!
  2. Manufacturer’s coupons — File them in away
  3. $ off your next purchase coupons — Keep these! These are like cash at your local store!

At this site, when I refer to a Catalina, I am referring to the 3rd type of Catalina. They are good for a certain amount off your next transaction — use them like cash or a gift card. They print when you purchase a certain number of a specific item or a certain dollar amount off a family of products.

For promotions that give you a Catalina for spending a certain amount on a family of products (example: Spend $30 in participating products, Get a $10 Catalina off your next purchase), the target amount of $30 is almost always before the cashier scans your manufacturer’s coupons, so you will almost never actually spend $30 out-of-pocket.

Sometimes Catalinas will “roll”, meaning you can use the Catalina that printed from your first transaction to pay for your second transaction and another Catalina will print.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Kotex Products (excluding U by Kotex)
November 4 – 27
Buy 2, Get $2 Catalina
Buy 3. Get $3 Catalina

The above Catalina gives you two options to save. You can choose to buy two Kotex items and receive a $2 off your next purchase Catalina or you could buy 3 items and receive a $3 off your next purchase Catalina. You can also see that this deal runs from 11/4-11/27.

Here is How You Could Save With Catalinas With The Above Example:

1st Transaction:
Kotex Liners on Sale $2.50 BOGO
Purchase 4 Boxes
Use (2) $1/2 Kotex Coupons
Total OOP: $3.00
Receive $3 Catalina
Final Price: FREE

2nd Transaction:
Kotex Liners on Sale $2.50 BOGO
Purchase 4 Boxes
Use (2) $1/2 Kotex Coupons
Total OOP: $3.00
Use $3 Catalina
Receive $3 Catalina
Final Price: FREE + $3 Catalina

As you can see…Catalinas can really save you money!
